Song of the Week #140
An audio medley by Carl Sigman
Among many other distinctions, Carl Sigman co-wrote "A Marshmallow World", my Christmas single with Jessica Martin from last year. So we could hardly not mark his centenary this week. We'll be observing the anniversary in our traditional format throughout the week, with a different song each day beginning tomorrow. But to kick things off we're doing something we've never done before: an audio edition of Song of the Week, featuring not just me and Jessica doing "Marshmallow World" but Sinatra, Glenn Miller, Placido Domingo, the Specials, the Andrews Sisters, Frankie Laine, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, the Righteous Brothers, Louis Prima, Cilla Black, Nat "King" Cole, and many others performing Carl Sigman songs, including "Pennyslvania 6-5000", the theme from Love Story, "Civilization (Bongo Bongo Bongo)", "It's All In The Game", "Arrivederci Roma", "Answer Me", "Ebb Tide", and a few curiosities from the more cobwebbed corners of my record collection.
You can get the podcast here - it's great fun, and you'll be singing along within seconds. And don't forget to join us every day for the rest of the week for a Carl Sigman Song of the Day. By the way, Carl's son Michael Sigman has his own centenary tribute to his dad over at the Huffington Post.
