Several prominent columnists - Wente, Warren, Robson, Leishman - have had their say on the Canadian Islamic Congress suit, but I do believe this is the first editorial in any Canadian newspaper on subject, and it comes not from Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver, but from - ta-da! - the Newfoundland Telegram:

The CIC has filed complaints with provincial human rights commissions in Ontario and B.C., arguing Steyn’s piece is “flagrantly Islamophobic.”

Flagrant it is — if, by flagrant you mean abrasive,  unapologetic opinion. That’s Steyn’s speciality.

On the other hand, Connie Fournier of Free Dominion notes the objections to the suit by Jason Kenney, Secretary of State for Multiculturalism, and thinks there's a double-standard at work:

When Paul Fromm was to speak in the Parliamentary Press Gallery about the injustice of the CHRC, Jason initiated a vote to ban him from Parliament Hill.

But now Jason is suddenly a heroic defender of free speech. I guess he just had to wait for a popular enough victim to come along before his principles could kick in.
