The Existential Question

Programming note: Mark will be on the radio immediately after today's Steyn Show with the Thursday replay of his Serenade Radio Song of the Week. That's at 9pm Greenwich Mean Time - which, for this week only, is 5pm North American Eastern/2pm Pacific. You can listen from anywhere on the planet right here.

~Mark is still recuperating from his heart attacks and having to build up his strength to get back to full output. Having done three great shows with some of his most popular guests this week, he's retreating back to his iron lung for a long weekend. However, he will be here on Friday in audio only for another Clubland Q&A taking questions live around the planet at 3pm North American Eastern/8pm GMT.

So we have something special to round out the week, something that in the present censorship climate could not be seen on GB News or any other UK TV channel: Over a decade-and-a-half ago, Mark wrote an international bestseller on the unlikely topic of demography, and in particular the fast shifting balance between native populations in the west and a resurgent Islam. It was an influential book, and prime ministers, presidents, princes and at least one king invited him to discuss its thesis with them.

And then they did nothing.

So here we are in a world where the unmentionable subjects are still unmentionable - or "subterranean", as Tony Blair put it. In this edition of the Steyn Show, Mark presents a new introduction to a conversation he had with Douglas Murray, author of The Strange Death of Europe, a couple of years ago, discussing the profound existential question confronting the civilisation that built the modern world. Every word said then applies now - only more so.

~If you enjoy these Steyn specials, we'll be doing them live on the Mark Steyn Cruise with many of your favourite guests.

~We thank those of you eager to support Steyn in taking the UK state censor Ofcom to the King's Bench Division of the English High Court. Mark understands the enthusiasm for "crowdfunding", but, after Justin leaned on Canadian banks to freeze the accounts of small donors, he is very wary of this route, and wouldn't wish what happened to blameless law-abiding Canucks on anybody. As he has said, there are many other ways to support this case - by, for example:

a) buying a loved one a Steyn Club gift membership;

b) treating a chum to a SteynOnline gift certificate; or

c) pre-ordering Mark's brand new book.

GB News will not be appealing, so, save for the support of friends of free speech around the world, Mark will be fighting this legal battle alone.

~Among the benefits of Mark Steyn Club membership is that you can enjoy The Mark Steyn Show in any medium you desire: video, audio or text. So, if you find Steyn and his guests more convivial in non-visual form, please log-in to our Audio and Transcript versions. To listen to the above show, simply click here.

This edition of The Mark Steyn Show is a special production of The Mark Steyn Club. We appreciate that membership is not for everyone, but, if you'd like to find out more about it, please see here.
