Christmas with the Bachmans

with Mark and his guests Randy Bachman and Tal Bachman

I was thrilled to see that this year my great compatriot Randy Bachman is up for the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in America:

Randy has been at the top of the rock world for almost six decades, since the Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive. So we congratulate him heartily on this much-deserved recognition. Last year, another old chum, Tim Rice, was awarded the Hall of Fame's highest honour, the Johnny Mercer Award. The SHOF has changed somewhat since the days when its chairman, Sammy Cahn, insisted I be present at almost every event. Sammy's successor in the role is Nile Rodgers, the guy from Chic ("Le Freak"), which is a whole other bag. But we are thrilled to see that musical figures from the Steyn Show are still being recognised by SHOF.

To celebrate this nomination, we've put together a seasonal compilation of Randy and his son Tal's recent appearances on the various iterations of our Christmas show. There's some conversation on various topics from Randy's recovery of a beloved, long-lost guitar to their sometime neighbours, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. But we'll also hear the Bachmans kick around a quintet of Yuletide songs (songs he says he only does once a year for me) plus a brief snatch of Randy's own contribution to the genre.

Tal will be back tomorrow, Sunday, with a brand new musical performance, along with many other friends, for my annual presentation of Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols. Hope you'll join us.

Oh, and don't forget that, as always, Tal will be one of our shipmates on the Mark Steyn Caribbean Cruise.
