This weekend, the United States and Allies around the world (the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, and many more) recognized the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. More than 10,000 lives were lost on the beaches of Normandy – from Utah to Omaha to Gold, Juno and Sword.
Veterans of World War II traveled once again to northern France to remember their brothers and honor the fallen. One veteran, who had stormed the beaches that day, read aloud a letter he wrote to his parents just days after the invasion:
"What a country we are. I will always be grateful to my commander for taking me along [to battle]. Don't worry about me. I am well, whole and happy. Love, Art."
We salute the Greatest Generation, today and every day.
Here at the global SteynOnline HQ, we miss Mark, as we know all of you do as well. He is doing better each and every day and is reading your comments and prayers. Mark and the whole team are grateful to the members and readers of the Mark Steyn Club for the continued support.
Now, in case you missed some of our guest columnists, regulars, and the best of Mark this past week, here's the rundown:
~ We began the week with a blast from the past – and always popular with Clubbers – "Light My Fire" Steyn's Song of the Week.
~ Monday, journalist and guest columnist to SteynOnline, Barbara Kay, gave us the inside scoop behind Canada's reconciliation efforts with its indigenous peoples in Practice to Deceive. It is a must read.
~ In Tuesday's Topical Take, past and present collided with another attack in the news and Mark's When Wanker Coppers Kill.
~ While we had a bit of a change of schedule on Wednesday, readers were treated to Part II of Tal's Odyssey pre-review!
~ Laura's Links never disappoint, and this week was no different. Most commented link – Covid, Covid, Covid – the stab that keeps on giving.
~ Friday it was Double Trouble with Laura and Tal Bachman guest hosting Clubland Q&A. The Live Action Replay can be listened to here. It's an hour you will hope doesn't end!
~ This week's edition of Mark Steyn on the Town featured one of Mark's favorite musical duos – the Sherman Brothers (of Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fame).
~ And Saturday night, Rick McGinnis feted SteynOnline with his review of The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, starring the Queen of Noir, Barbara Stanwyck.
We have another big week ahead with Laura, Tal, Barbara, and Rick – so don't miss a day!
