We were sorry to hear of the death yesterday of Ann Widdecombe, former Conservative minister, former Strictly Come Dancing contestant, former Brexit MEP, and latterly Reform UK's immigration spokesperson. Today came the shocking news that Ann was murdered. The suspect remains at large and is said by the Prime Minister to be "clearly dangerous". (UPDATE: A 26-year old man has been arrested in Newton Abbot.) It seems a terrible end for one of the most normal and most fun personalities in British politics.
Ann's views on migrants, abortion and the LGBTQWERTY ensured that, unlike almost all her Tory contemporaries, she remained ungarlanded by the British state. Nevertheless, Mark was always glad to see her in the telly green rooms.
Here is one such appearance on TheMark Steyn Show four years ago. The pretext was the curious touchiness of the media, the Opposition and the Speaker of the House of Commons over so much as raising the question of what Sir Keir Starmer did or didn't do as Director of Public Prosecutions - especially when it came to paedophiles. With hindsight, his tenure in the only job he'd had to date foreshadowed, in more ways than one, his premiership - not least in his indifference to the ongoing gang rape of hundreds of thousands of English schoolgirls, and his hostility toward any citizens who make the mistake of noticing what's going on.
Mark's monologue starts at 4-30 in, and Ann joins him to discuss a few minutes later:
Rest in peace, Ann Widdecombe.
