~Thank you for your kind comments about last week's edition. Jackie, a Pennsylvania member of The Mark Steyn Club, says:
I knew of Dinah Shore as she had a variety show as well as the gossip of her affair with Burt. I never realized what beautiful tone her voice possessed.
As always, a great show with background I never knew. Truly enjoyable and I look forward to each Saturday's show. Thank you Mark. We need more music in this world.
Dinah has a truly beautiful and expressive vocal tone, Jackie. People who only know her as a daytime telly host are really missing out.
The opening appeal to On the Town listeners who are Frank Zappa fans prompted this response from Maryland Steyn Clubber Michael Smith:
My brother likes Frank Zappa.
Like Liberace's brother, he's not here either.
Thanks for the great show.
Gregory Meade, a First Weekend Founding Member of the Steyn Club, enjoyed our opening number:
Hi Mark! Listening while recovering from shoulder replacement surgery. I can't wait to get back to my guitar and thump through the chord arrangement of Mel's Happy Together.
While Gregory was reaching for his guitar, Teresa Maupin was reaching for the cocktail glass:
Listening to Mel Torme, I had a sudden urge for a cigarette and martini!
Anne Kearney, an Oklahoma Steyn Club member, enjoyed our Sinatra Sextet:
I'm shocked the lunatic feminists haven't attacked the great bearskin tune, 'What Are You Afraid Of?'! Let's hope they don't discover it. Never knew Borge could sing, but of course! ...loved Dooley on that as well ... the harmony of them all! And what an inspired pairing of 'A Lovely Way To Spend an Evening' and 'I Couldn't Sleep a Wink Last Night.' Such innocent, yearning romance. And Tony ... nobody like him.
Thank you for another superb evening, Mark!
One more - from California Steyn Clubber Jeff Estes:
I've turned my 90 year old, FDR loving mother, onto Serenade radio and she's hooked! Thanks for the excellent work Mr Steyn.
Glad to have your mom along, Jeff!
