Today we mark the welcome return of daylight saving time in North America. Europe will join in three weeks time whilst some in the Antipodes will move back an hour the first Sunday of April. For our readers in British Columbia, the change will remain permanent this year and they will never get their hour back:
According to the province's Ministry of Attorney General, the Interpretation Amendment Act, which became law in 2019, was not enforced to 'coordinate timing with neighboring U.S. states in the same time zone.' Now, the province says that due to recent U.S. actions, it has shifted its approach to 'decisions that merit alignment, including on time zones.'
When clocks spring forward on Sunday, March 8, Seattle and Vancouver will be on the same time until November. When daylight saving time ends Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, the Pacific Northwest will fall back one hour, meaning Vancouver and the rest of British Columbia will be an hour ahead of Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and a portion of Idaho...
Please watch timings carefully for Mark's Serenade shows (on UK time) and our Clubland Q&A (on North American Eastern Time) during this interregnum.
Mark will be back this morning with his ongoing audio adaptation of his bestselling book America Alone: The End of the World As We Know It. In case you missed it, here's last week's episode. Clubbers may catch up on all episodes here.
Club members are also enjoying our new Tale for Our Time - The Quest of the Sacred Slipper by Sax Rohmer - brilliantly narrated by Mark himself. Here's last night's episode. We will be back this evening with episode seventeen.
