Hey guys and gals, it's me, your Sinister In House Jewess, coming to you after a couple of very busy Jewy days.
Earlier this week it was Israeli Memorial Day for those who have fallen in war, in service of Israel and the Jewish people and in acts of terror.
It is a very emotionally draining day, and even more so as I get older. It's not an abstract or general day of observance and mourning for me and my family, it's personal. My brother in law David Cohen (may Hashem avenge his murder) was murdered by terrorists in Kiryat Arba in July 2001. Before then, my parents' friends Esther and Reuven ("Syke") Paltzur who were murdered in 1985 on their yacht in Larnaca.
I seem to have less tolerance for sadness as I get older, my threshold for heartbreak - particularly when it comes to bereaved parents is incredibly low. I guess that is a good thing for the soul in general; to be empathetic and sympathetic but there's only so much I can read about or listen to or watch without feeling completely overwhelmed.
As I've mentioned on other occasions, Jewish holidays start the evening before the actual day. Memorial Day starts in the evening, lasts for a full day and then blends seamlessly into the celebrations for Israel Independence Day - which also lasts until nightfall the next day. And then the Independence Day festivities were really a lot of fun. The stories are so inspirational, and feelings of pride, redemption and Providence fill my soul. There was lots of grilling, music, kids playing and family chatting and catching up. My cup runneth over.
Needless to say, it was all a lot of excitement for a woman of a certain age like me, and now I am back to regularly scheduled programming.
I hope you enjoy this batch of Links.
Given the continual volume of gloom and doom stories that flood us every week from all corners of the world, the universe (and when I say "the universe" I of course mean G-d, so perhaps I should say The Universe in the future) provided me with an abundance of Human Grace stories that I trust will bring to you at least a small degree of light which, if calibrated properly, will banish away the darkness (and there is real darkness out there) that constantly attempts to dampen our spirits.
Have a great weekend and I'll see you in the comments.

The tone police and the asymmetry of outrage (I really like that phrase, the 'asymmetry of outrage'-so good).
There is so little racism in America that left wing psycho kooks like the ones at the SPLC (or the $PLC as Kathy Shaidle used to call it) have to make it up and send their fundraised dollars to create un-organic, manufactured hate by the organizations and weirdos they claim to fight against. What if it's not incompetence, but intentional?
We need to have an honest discussion about this. And it starts with something like this.
"Every one of my Jewish friends is actively looking to leave the UK."

"13-year-old Anna was in a relationship with 17-year-old Mahamed, and was stoned to death. Not in Islamabad, but behind the district heating plant in Hjallerup."

"This is what the internet was invented for."
Always good to check, but granny was fine.
GOOD. Read books. Touch grass. Shut phone.
"Thank you from the bottom of my broken heart." What a mensch.
Any human who does this for a goat (or any other animal) is a good, good human.
"It was my greatest honor to die for you."
