Greetings one and all and welcome to this week's batch of Laura's Links.
As you may or not have heard, I was filling in for Mark yesterday on the Live Q&A Around the Planet. If you missed the live show, or were busy with the Argentina-England match (yay Argentina), then you can listen to the replay here.
We got some interesting questions from Canada, America and the UK, and I also told the story of how I got acquainted with the Great Prophet Steyn himself. And on the topic of the great man himself, Mark is getting lots of rest and taking very good care and we hope that he will be back at the mic next Wednesday!
Now, as usual on double duty weeks, my intro will be a little on the light side, but there are many good links below to entertain and horrify you and to keep you busy and engaged for quite some time.
As I mentioned on the live Q&A, we here at Steyn HQ deal with the mostly dark underbelly of the internet and of the world on a pretty consistent and regular basis. But it's not all bad. There's lots of good around us and within us.
Take care of yourselves and others, and give thanks for what you have. I'm very thankful to be here week after week, among many other things.
If you wish to share some of what you are thankful for in our comment section, do feel free. Not many things are certain in this world, but I am certain that there's no one amongst us who could not use an extra, completely free and generous dose of positivity and goodness, especially when it seems like the entire world has gone mad.
Enjoy your weekend, and I'll see you in our comment section as I'm able.

North America:
A love letter to America, truly lovely: "I came to NYC from Odessa in 1977, a Soviet Jewish kid of six who spoke no English. America was a country entering its most unapologetically aspirational decade, and its music became my foundation. The anthems paved the way forward."
Graham Platner and the death of the resistance.
Like Mark stays, America has a home front problem.
Candace Owens crashes and burns.
Meet "American Priorities".
Ugh. These effette, misogynistic nepo babies are absolutely gross. This is a good and proper skewering.
"My bride and princess." A Palestinian-American love story. Pray for this woman's poor daughter who is now an orphan. I hope this savage, disgusting murderer is extradited to America, but I don't think Jordan has any extradition agreement with America. Another celebrated Palestinian murderer needs to be extradited from the Kingdom of Jordan, but there's a snowball's chance in hell that that will ever happen. More here.
Why does America still have "diversity lottery" visas?????? PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS.

Saw this on X, it's old but good (language alert). Never heard of either chap before seeing a clip.
Your government hates you and wants your women and daughters raped and killed.

Asia:
Japan goes full Steyn demography gloomography. Never go full Steyn gloomography. To wit: "Pets in Japan now outnumber children under 15 by more than 2 million, reshaping a market once built around babies. As Japan's birthrate continues to fall, companies that made their names selling childcare products are increasingly turning to pets."

Misc:
We were just talking about this in the comment section last week!

Down Under:
You had me at "Australian burlesque dancer-turned-Muslim-influencer".

Human Grace:
"It's a shirt for an interview when you don't want the job." I have watched this reel about a dozen time and laugh every time. Bravo. This is what the internet was made for.
America, how I love your anthem and your warriors.
Apparently, the secret to 80 years of marriage is McDonald's.
I'm putting this into the Human Grace section because of Professor Saad's tremendous intellect and insights. We discussed his new book Suicidal Empathy on the Q&A and I'm looking forward to reading it.
