On Friday I had the privilege of guest-hosting America's Number Two cable show "Tucker Carlson Tonight". We ran the gamut from Cory Booker polling at 1.7 per cent in Iowa to the return of the Plague - yes, that Plague - to wipe out Cory's 1.7 per cent and everything else.
First up was massive Black Friday clearances on surplus Democrat presidential candidates. Radio colossus Howie Carr joined me. Click below to watch:
Ned Ryun followed with some thoughts on former Democrat presidential candidate Martin O'Malley going semi-postal against Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Ken Cucinelli - we'll link to that as soon as it's posted.
As is traditional in Christendom, the Yuletide season in London and the Hague began with murder and stabbings:
Buck Sexton was in studio (we'll post that later), and then Derek Maltz with some thoughts on a welcome initiative by the Trump Administration - the designation of Mexico's powerful drug cartels as terrorist organizations:
Thank you @MarkSteynOnline for inviting @derekmaltz_sr to discuss
this very important opiod war of the 1800's redux on western civilization. Not many know what's really going on .. context is everything #GreatAwakening pic.twitter.com/JtuLLejcqk

Next up was a beloved Thanksgiving ritual - the annual Macy's parade of the world's worst lip-syncers:
Tired of filthy disease-ridden Democrat-run cities? Forget about municipal government; get a conservative activist to clean them up:
And we closed out the week with one of my favorite segments - Dr Marc Siegel on the return of the Plague (as in the Black Death) to China, and whether it's headed your way:
Thanks to all who tuned in: We very much appreciate it. You can watch the full edition of "Tucker Carlson Tonight" here - and I'll be back with Tucker on Monday.
If you prefer me in audio only, join me for a musical diversion tomorrow, Sunday. If you prefer me in print, to mark SteynOnline's seventeenth birthday, we have 17 per cent off all my books and everything else over at the Steyn store - but only until Monday! Just fill your shopping basket as you would normally, and then watch and wonder as the 17 per cent discount gets applied at checkout to everything you've bought.

Kamala Harris out! Dudette's gotta go!
Louis Pasteur said "Messieurs, c'est les microbes qui auront le dernier mot." (Gentlemen, it is the microbes who will have the last word.)"
Fast forward to today, he did not know what a small world it would become nor the rapid evolution these microbes are capable of.
I don't agree with Dr. Seigel. Fear doesn't spread disease, ignorance does, ignorance and a lack of clean water and good hygiene. He should know that. Ever I, a lowly nurse, had to study epidemiology in nursing school.
After my the last few days in London the best line I have heard from Londoners is the new Pythonesque Christmas greeting : Joyeux Narwhal!
Quebecers will appreciate that one.
I like a joke too but at some point it goes beyond a joke. To paraphrase the apostle Paul, they are always joking, but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. They are under attack by a barbaric culture but are joking about the second-most pivotal event in history that distinguishes their culture from that of the attackers. They are assisting in their own civilizational demise.
That is fair, but living in London with parents who survived the Blitz, using a bit of black humour helps.
On the practical side I have now gone a bit Israeli and done a few years Krav
Maga, and as a surgeon I have brushed up on m trauma skills. Not up to an ex flatmate from the 80s who is a full time trauma surgeon and was very busy last Friday patching up the wounded.
Mark said long ago that the shoulders need to be broadened and people like him and Douglas Murray do what they can, but in my little way with on line comments and at various gatherings I open my mouth.
I had a bad day commuting in Lo don on 7/7 although away from the bombs and know 2 people killed in separate Islamic terror attacks.
Don't worry, I am not complacent.
Krav maga is certainly a justifiable skill to develop along with church attendance which can get sadly neglected in our day. Practising the Gospel is a better way than dark humour to keep joyful and peaceful in the midst of turmoil.
Kudos to the FNC stylists for cleaning up Mark so nicely!
Sorry make that Cambridge University. "Learning Together, an education scheme run by the University of Cambridge's Institute of Criminology".
I feel a certain rage right now, but actually not even most strongly toward the terrorist because I expect no less from murderous jihadist scum such as he.
We know now that there is footage of the London terrorist ("London man") cavorting with the murderer of Lee Rigby and saying he's not a terrorist, mate etc. Yet despite his terrorist background, this scumbag was given a day pass to attend a "rehab" conference, ah yes, the wonders of the Islamic terrorist rehab programs when he had, wait for it, an acute terrorist episode.
The conference was meant to pair Oxford University students with jihadi terrorists in creative writing workshops.
"Learning Together" is the name of this sickening, repulsive initiative. The terrorist sure learned something-that the British people were weak, naive suckers and that the workshop was a perfect opportunity to kill an infidel or two, or three or a dozen.
Now, knowing all this, the father of Jack Merrit has said the following: "my son was beautiful spirit who took the side of the underdog".
Perhaps I'm in the minority, but at the moment, this is the most disturbing fact of the story to me. A fat lot of good it did his son to be on the side of the underdog. His son is dead precisely because of this misguided, wicked world view. This is the most overlooked part of the story-the parents who set their children on a course that may well lead to their murder, and celebrate them being on the side of the underdog as they put their children underground.
This man has further stated in a Tweet (does anyone have any dignity left in this world): "that his son 'would not wish his death to be used as the pretext for more draconian sentences or for detaining people unnecessarily".
It is profoundly evil for parents to raise their flesh and blood as sacrifices.
Cultures that indulge parents who venerate "the underdog" and Tweet such utter rubbish before their own child's funeral are beyond redemption.
Thanks for this Laura - all accurate and too true. Parents such as these are in the human shield business. Vile and infuriating. And another sign England is past tense.
Well said. Can you imagine Britain in the late 1930s and early 1940s having writing workshops for NAZIs in their midst, or importing millions of NAZIs in the name of tolerance? The delusion that every ideology is equal, that they all have redeeming features, and that we must tolerate people whose ideology and culture are so profoundly against our own in every way possible is idiotic. This sort of self loathing as a virtue crap that the left peddles is the new means for mass extinction since abortion and communism haven't worked to completely wipe out Judeo-Christian society from the face of the earth.
"Cultures that indulge parents who venerate "the underdog" and Tweet such utter rubbish before their own child's funeral are beyond redemption."
It's absolutely sickening, isn't it, Laura? Mark's old line - about (society's) "human sacrifices on the altar of diversity" - increasingly applies to the families of individual victims. After reading David Merritt's statement about his son's murder (the day before), it occurred to me that he should've used that glib line, "Jack died doing what he loved". It turns out he said exactly that!!
The family of the other victim - Saskia Jones - has made similar comments about "her passion for providing invaluable support to victims of criminal injustice". Yes - *injustice*.
The Merritt and Jones families think their children's murderer was the real victim, and they couldn't even wait until after their funerals to say so publicly. These are very distorted priorities in the midst of grief. Truly vile.

Michael, your statement "parents such as these are in the human shield business" is exactly right and exactly evil.
It's unimaginable. "Self loathing as a virtue" is very precise and very well stated and is profoundly evil.
Until after the funeral at least-yes, this is so disturbing. As a parent, picturing parents put virtue signalling before grief and any shred of dignity is upsetting and heartbreaking almost beyond what can be articulated in words.
The parents rushing to tell the world that their now-dead infidel children were not Islamophobic is twisted beyond belief.
The University of Cambridge VC, Stephen Toope, is doubling down on the success of the "Learning Together" program, despite the fatal lesson about "togetherness" delivered by the guest jihadist.
Mark has written before about being out-parodied by reality, but this story surpasses them all.
We are indeed being out-parodied by reality.
I see Otto Warmbier's parents are suing North Korea. If I lost a son I would be inconsolable but if my child had been killed because they they had done something incredibly stupid, I would be too embarrassed to make a public statement.
Laura, absolutely right! I had the same reaction of sick disgust. What twisted, evil parental mind sells out his dead son to the garbage ideology of diversity? Had such happened to me, I'm certain my initial grief-stricken reaction would be viewed a extremely genocidal toward Muslims generally. But, at least it would be loyal to my son—the person a normal parent owes his first and supreme loyalty.
Politics be damned! Get me mah beer!
Great show! I love the montages, they are so bad they're good. G-d bless whoever at FOX must have to look at hours of mind-numbing footage to get those nuggets and sew them together.
Mark, thanks for all you do ... but we are all still going to fall to Islam as it slowly marches along and the world "wonders after the beast saying, who can make war with he beast?
This is not the first time that Mexican terrorists have threatened American Borders. 1916 was a time of revolution in Mexico with Pancho Villa fighting against the dictatorship of Huerta and his federales. On March 9th Villa raided Columbus, New Mexico and killed civilians and 13th Cavalry soldiers from nearby Camp Furlong. Villa and his muchachos were driven off with heavy casualties but Border safety was shattered. Black Jack Pershing led a nearly yearlong expedition to capture Villa but largely failed in the rugged terrain.
There are many similarities with today's problem with the border but now the situation is much worse. The uncontrolled immigration and drug smuggling not only give the Cartels great wealth but bases throughout the U.S. American casualties due to opioids, fentanyl and other contraband are staggering. We have much greater surveillance capability and firepower but the question is whether America can come together to fight this problem. Too many interests in this country benefit from the Border chaos.
"Too many interests in this country benefit from the Border chaos." Distant foreign interests too, as mentioned in the segment. There's a good article by Clifford D May about Hezbollah's foothold in activities in the region - "a comprehensive and long-term strategy to 'export' Iran's Islamic Revolution to the Western Hemisphere and establish forward operating bases to be used against the United States." ("Latin America's socialist-Islamist-narco-terrorist alliance", 27/9/17).
(Elsewhere, on the Sunni side, the Islamisation of the illegal drug trade in the (Asian) "Golden Horseshoe Caliphate" is said to be a key source of ideology and terrorism funding.)
Walt, thank you for mentioning John Pershing's punitive expedition following Pancho Villa's cross-border raids. In the aftermath of that, Texas stationed national guard units strategically to protect the border. My father was in one of these in the late 1930's, the 112th (horse) Cavalry, stationed at Fort Bliss (El Paso). Their primary mission was to patrol the "rugged terrain" of the border area against incursions by Mexican bandits, revolutionaries and other malefactors, until the outbreak of WWII when they were shipped to New Caledonia as part of the Pacific War effort. Fort Bliss is the second-largest (in area) U.S. Army base in the United States now, and to my knowledge, does absolutely nothing whatever to prevent cross-border malefactors from entering the United States.
Kate, thank you so much for the link to the Clifford May article, as well as your direction to so much other useful content (more than any other MSC member, I think). No one is taking this seriously. See my response to Walt above.
In the matter of "useful content (more than any other MSC member, I think)" of course I except Laura Rosen Cohen, with her extremely useful "Laura's Links" columns, full of useful and, sometimes, entertaining, content.
Never apologize, it's a sign of weakness. -- an old Cavalry Captain, long on the Frontier.
Walt: That sounds pretty bad, so think how bad it must be at Ukraine's border! Just saw top State Dep't people- TOP PEOPLE- explain that the Donbas was THE critical U.S. security priority, border-wise. They didn't mention the U.S. border. Wasn't limited to State Dep't people, one token military man in very sharp dress uniform (not sure, uniform looked like Ukranian dress blues). He didn't mention U.S. border, either. They were all very professional, and devoted to official policy over crude, base U.S. interests.
Your Dad!!!! Wow!!
And many thanks for your kind comments about my column.
Thanks, Paul - and of course, I knew that you knew that "Laura's Links" are the ultimate in links.
It's fascinating to hear this history and your father's part in it. I always appreciate the very informative (and funny) comments by you and Walt and co, needless to say.
The University of Cambridge cancelled an eminent "anti-Islamic-by-association" academic but welcomed a convicted Islamic terrorist. Because a Jordan Peterson fan wearing a "Proud Islamophobe" t-shirt is a greater risk than a known jihadist wearing an electronic tag.
#TooStupidToSurvive
Mark replies:
Very good point, Kate.
Perhaps a better comparison with the Islamophobe t-shirt is the *hoax* explosive vest. (In the immediate aftermath of the attack, the MSM obsessed over the latter to the extent that the murder of two people was a footnote.)
Five of Usman Khan's accomplices in the plot to blow up the London Stock Exchange are on parole. And 23,000 Islamic "lone wolves" are on a UK watch list. #PartAndParcel
PS. Great show, Mark.
The word shouldn't be "Islamophobia." It should be "Islamo-awareness."
And the substitute for "Islamophobe" would probably be "Islamo-woke."
I don't mind "reclaiming" the pejorative label. As the "Proud Islamophobe" T-shirt says: "I hate... paedophilia, rape, wife-beating, slavery, homophobia, misogyny, killing apostates, funding terror groups, sharia courts, anti-Semitism (etc etc)..."
"Islamophobia: A word created by fascists and used by cowards to manipulate morons." (Christopher Hitchens)
"Politics Be Damned"...sounds like a song title. Politics be damned is a funny thing for a Democrat senator from New Jersey to say. What a loser.
Coming up on the 48th anniversary of President Nixon's visit to China, a place that discovered "to get rich is glorious"; and through the glories of communism spreads that wealth around fairly enough to put a varmint in every pot, minus the pot and cooking fuel; it's been long enough to say that Nixon was wrong in his approach of rewarding China before it came around, a mistake repeated decades afterwards. Across the board in foreign policy, we are beset by decisions that get made and metastasize forth. President Trump has no doubt racked up the demerits on his social credit score by China but deserves thanks for questioning assumptions and making tweaks to foreign policy.
Sol, I agree! For years, really since I was a little kid and my mom showed my a newspaper photo of Nixon shaking some Chinese premier's hand, I've thought the whole thing a terrible idea. You can't make friends with evil. Evil doesn't come to love you just because you faun over it and act generously, bowing and scraping like obama did. Evil, in all things, will seek to destroy you. It knows no loyalty, no friendship, no warmth of spirit.
If Nixon had left the Chinese to stew in their own totalitarian juices they would have collapsed by now like the Soviet Union.
Kitty Bits, apropos your mention of the Nixon in China handshake photo, the forced handshake orchestrated between Yassir Arafat and Yitzchak Rabin by Bill Clinton qualifies for the same treatment.
Why is the left opposed to declaring the Mexican drug cartels as terrorists?
Because the Democrats launder drugs cash and are tied into the drug trade.
How else did Chicago become the distribution hub for Mexican drug gangs?
And how come this occurred shortly after 2011? What happened in Chicago in 2011?
The Dems are an organized crime syndicate that has a political arm, a police force (DoJ/FBI), an intel division (CIA), an International representative team (State) and a Judiciary. They run most of the US military, all US education and the media. Democrats have their own Tech cartels in Twitter, Facebook and ABC. The have "lawmakers" whose job is to extort contributions from corporations and lobbyists via the Tool-booth. They have "community enforcers" - the unions. The Dems have bag carriers who collect money from foreign governments like the Chinese, Mexicans, Ukranians, Indians, in return for favorable treatment at the expense of American citizens.
Dems take a skim from Planned Parenthood, a massive baby incubation and body parts sales organization masquerading as a womens' health charity.
Want to fund a new "green" business, say a battery business for EVs? The Dems will give your VCs $500m. Just make sure to return 5% in campaign contributions. The Dems will see that the grant money is flushed away, and the Chinese will pick up the business cheap, with a slice for the Dems on the side.
Without the drugs trade, there would be no misery for the Dems to "care" about. No squalor, no poverty, no societal breakdown. No unaccounted-for money to keep those expensive lifestyles, pay off the lackeys.
The degradation that drugs bring to towns across America destroys working and middle class America, rots out the free will of independent American communities and ties the people to Nanny's Democrat apron strings.
You just wrote what nobody else wants to admit is most likely happening! Indeed: "Without the drugs trade, there would be no misery for the Dems to "care" about." Not all, but many of the Democrats in the cities that are failing miserably are complicit in the degrading of our society and I think you hit on something very big and real here. It starts out with a little covering the butt here and there and before you know it, none of the politicians are hiding any of the criminals they are protecting nor any of their agendas which assist the illegal immigrant populations from gaming the system.
I remember the first time I saw the movie Goodfellas, around the time at the tail end of the Clinton presidency in 2000. About half way through the movie I started thinking that this is how the Democrat party operates. They murder, steal and run roughshod over whomever they please without fear and without being held accountable. Unfortunately, the story never ends for the Democrats like it did for the mobsters in the movie. It just keeps going.
PP: so well said.
I'm watching things play out in the States from NZ, and desperately hoping Trump prevails.
Basically what you're saying is that an entire state within a state exists in America. If even part of your description is true, the Deep State in Washington is just the tip of the iceberg.
I can hear the calls from the left in London. "This terror attack only proves we need stricter laws on knives."
