On her radio show this weekend, Monica Crowley talked to Mark and played selections from his Christmas album with Jessica Martin, Making Spirits Bright. For Christmas Day, said Monica, she's going to "slip the CD in the player, sip some spiked eggnog, and read After America." She also described Mark as "one of the great voices of all time", which suggests she may have over-spiked the eggnog.
Making Spirits Bright managed to hit Number Four on Amazon's jazz chart, of all things, just behind Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr, and we're delighted people like it. Featuring some of London's top musicians playing sparkling arrangements by Kevin Amos, the album ranges from 19th century carols right up to the present and includes "Sweet Gingerbread Man", "The Christmas Glow Worm" and, of course, "A Marshmallow World". If you're minded to try it (like Monica) in combination, it's also available at the SteynOnline bookstore in combination with The Mark Steyn Christmas Show, Mark Steyn's American Songbook, and the book of the Song of the Week, A Song For The Season.
