Happy Dominion Day to Mark's fellow Canadians. We were thrilled to see that among the inductees into the Order of Canada today is a great friend of our musical endeavors here, Patsy Gallant. Patsy has sung everything: she had a monster disco hit in Canada, Britain, and across the Commonwealth and Europe with "From New York To LA", and then an incredible eight-year run in Starmania, the blockbuster Paris musical smash that in France was bigger than Les Miz and Phantom combined. But she has always loved Édith Piaf, and on The Mark Steyn Weekend Show a while back Mark was honored to present not only her version of "La Vie en rose" but, as a bonus, and by way of special request from Mark, another Piaf success - "Sous le ciel de Paris":
It has been a very good month for Mme Gallant. A few weeks ago, she was awarded, along with the great Quebec actress Andrée Lachapelle, with the Prix Québecor. In the video below, that's a brief glimpse of Mark hoisting Patsy up on to her chair to receive the cheers of the crowd:
Congratulations to Patsy - or, as we must learn to call her, Mme Patsy Gallant, CM.
Steyn's Song of the Week is produced with support from members of The Mark Steyn Club, for which we're profoundly grateful. For more on the Club, see here.
There's more live music from Mark's shows over the years in his On the Town best-of-the-guests special with performances from Liza Minnelli, Paul Simon, Loudon Wainwright III, Everything But The Girl and many more. And there's more video entertainment from Steyn's Song of the Week below, including from Patsy:

**tap tap** is this thing on???
Thought I would swing by to stir things up a bit, so quiet on this thread. Canada Day was made MUCH more enjoyable by seeing that PM Hairdo's #MeToo story is going international. Now the CBC (Communist Broadcasting Corporation) will have to cover it. He apparently doesn't recall anything negative the day he allegedly groped a young journalist lass, but I think the international media are smelling blood and now circling the waters somewhat.
It's on!
"Je toujours confondu la vie avec les bandes dessinées..."
;)
For those head-scratching... "I always confuse life with comic strips..."
Starmania!
It's more quotable than the other blockbusters...
"SOS from an earth in distress..."
"The world is stone..."
"I've never had my feet on the ground, I'd rather be a bird."
The Businessman's Blues: 'I'd rather be an artist... change my skin every day..."
"SOS d'un terrien en distress" seems to be competing with "I will always love me" for most popular song sung for a competition.
Relatively new to discovering the Starmania popularity, so delighted to learn about Mme Gallant's performances in it. Through this also have discovered how many powerful and talented singers, male and female that Canadia Quebec has contributed to the world.
:)
Well done Patsy but isn't her hit a 'cover' of " Mon pays ce n'est pas un pays c'est l'hiver" ? Ottawa boy just askin....
Mark, I know you are away, and am (sort of) asking this rhetorically: how many shows did you make? Were they only prepared for the now disreputable CRTV? I must admit, I found the glimpses I got of your show to be reminiscent of the best variety shows available when I was a child watching the 3 networks. From Danny Kaye to Sonny and Cher, from Jack Benny to Ed Sullivan, I loved them all, and your shows were every bit as fascinating and well produced, photographed, and recorded. Are they no more?
C'est géniale!
